GIRL DINNER EXPERIMENTAL POSTERS
The Project
The goal of this project was to push myself out of my comfort zone. I realized majority of my work was clean and crisp, yet I loved looking at the distressed and college-like designs. Why not try to make this myself? My friends and I would meet regularly for girl dinners and we would say the most unhinged things! Our photos we’d had so much motion and chaos in them. I wanted to capture the humor and chaos along with our photos so we can remember these nights.
Made with Adobe Photoshop.
The Process
I began by isolating the subjects from the photos and importing them into Illustrator, pairing them with a sans-serif typeface featuring our quotes while maintaining pockets of white space. The photos were heavily edited using various filters and effects. I created high-contrast images, overlaid them with halftones, and added more motion. The designs were printed in 11x17 inches, with the white spaces filled with doodles or handwritten quotes related to the theme.
The next phase was all about destruction. I crumpled, walked on, and tore the posters before scanning them back into the computer to continue editing the shadows and edges. Even during the scanning process, I experimented by lifting certain areas or shifting the posters to see how it affected the result. The outcome and the entire process reflected the chaotic energy of the girl dinners perfectly.
